If you have books saved as drafts in KDP, you can only send two new ones in each format to be published each week. A draft you saved weeks ago still counts, the first time you click Publish.

So this week, open your drafts, pick the two in each format that matter most, and plan the rest for the weeks after.

What KDP’s page says

The KDP Help page Create a Book, checked 14 October 2026, has a section called “New title creation and submission limits.” It lists two weekly limits:

  • Creation limit. Up to 2 titles per book format each week.
  • Submission limit. Up to 2 new titles per book format each week, “counted the first time you submit a title for publication. This includes titles previously saved as drafts.”

The same section also says:

  • Updates to titles you have already submitted do not count against the weekly submission limit.
  • The two limits are separate from each other.
  • They apply separately to each format: ebook, paperback, and hardcover.
  • They reset every Sunday at 12:00 AM Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).

The page gives the reason as helping “promote a positive experience for all authors and readers.” It does not say more than that, so we will not guess.

We covered the first limit, on starting new books, in the 2 October note. This note is about the second one, on hitting Publish.

When your week starts

Midnight UTC on Sunday is Saturday evening in the US. On the East Coast that is 8 PM on Saturday until the clocks change on 1 November, and 7 PM after that. If you live somewhere else, look up what midnight UTC is where you are and write it down once.

What to do this week

  1. Open your Bookshelf and count your drafts. Write the format next to each one. The ebook and the paperback of the same book are two titles, one in each format.
  2. Pick two per format. Choose the ones that are truly finished: inside pages, cover, description, and price.
  3. Give the rest a week each on a calendar. Two per format per week, in the order you want readers to see them.
  4. Do not hold back a fix. Correcting a typo or a cover on a book you already submitted is an update, and the page says updates do not count.
  5. Click Publish only when a book is ready. A rushed first submission still uses one of your two spots that week.

A small example

This one is made up, just to show the idea. Say you saved three paperbacks of a short series as drafts. On Tuesday you submit books one and two. Book three waits until after the Sunday reset, even though you created it weeks ago.

On Wednesday you spot a typo in a paperback that is already on sale, and you upload a fixed file. That is an update, so it does not use up a spot.

The ebook of book three is a different format. If you have not used your two ebook spots that week, it can go now.

Two new titles per format each week, and saved drafts count when you first hit Publish.
